Rowe, Nicholas
(20 jun. 1674, Little Barford, Bedfordshire, Inglaterra–6 dic. 1718, Londres).

Escritor inglés. Sus obras teatrales tuvieron gran importancia en el desarrollo de la tragedia doméstica (en la cual los protagonistas son de clase media en vez de aristócratas), como The Ambitious Step-Mother [La madrastra ambiciosa] (1700), Tamerlane [Tamerlán] (1702), The Fair Penitent [El penitente justo] (1703), The Tragedy of Jane Shore [La tagedia de Jane Shore] (1714) y The Tragedy of the Lady Jane Grey [La tragedia de Lady Jane Grey] (1715). También se lo recuerda por haber sido el primero en intentar una edición crítica de la obra de William Shakespeare (The Works of Mr. William Shakespear, 1709, 1714). Su poesía está compuesta principalmente de odas y traducciones. Fue nombrado poeta laureado de su país en 1715. Se lo considera el dramaturgo trágico más importante del s. XVIII en Inglaterra.
